Getting Started
Installing Aria
Download the installer for your operating system from the Downloads page. Run the installer and follow the prompts. Aria works on macOS 10.15+, Windows 10+, and modern Linux distributions.
First-time Setup
When you first launch Aria, a setup wizard guides you through connecting your SIP account. Enter your server address, username, and password. The wizard will test your connection and save your settings.
Understanding the Interface
Aria has four main sections: Dialer for making calls, History for recent calls, Contacts for your address book, and Settings for configuration. Navigate between them using the sidebar on the left.
Making & Receiving Calls
Making a Call
Use the dialpad to enter a phone number or SIP address. Click the green call button to dial. You can also select a country code from the dropdown for international formatting.
Receiving Calls
When someone calls you, Aria displays the caller ID and plays a ringtone. Click the green answer button to accept, or the red button to decline.
During a Call
While on a call, you can mute your microphone, put the call on hold, open the DTMF keypad for tone dialing, or toggle the speaker. The call duration is displayed in real-time.
Call Recording
Click the record button during a call to start recording. Recordings are saved locally in your Documents folder. You can also enable auto-record in account settings.
Managing Contacts
Adding Contacts
Click the + button in the Contacts tab to add a new contact. Enter their name, SIP URI or phone number, and optionally mark them as a favorite for quick access.
Editing & Deleting
Tap any contact to view details. Use the edit button to modify their information or delete button to remove them from your contacts list.
Favorites
Mark frequently called contacts as favorites. They appear at the top of your contacts list for quick one-tap calling.
Importing Contacts
Aria can sync with your system contacts (macOS) when you grant permission. Enable this in Settings > Contacts sync. Google Contacts integration is coming soon.
Account Management
Adding Multiple Accounts
Aria supports multiple SIP accounts. Go to Settings > Accounts and click "Add Account" to configure additional accounts. Each can have different servers and credentials.
Switching Accounts
Your accounts are listed in Settings. The active account shows a green "Online" indicator. Tap any account to switch to it for outgoing calls.
Connection Settings
Each account can use UDP, TCP, or TLS transport. TLS is recommended for security. Advanced settings include custom ports, registrar servers, and outbound proxies.
Auto-Record Setting
Enable auto-record per account to automatically save all calls. This is useful for compliance or training purposes. Recordings are stored locally.
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
If you see "Connection error", check your internet connection and verify your server address is correct. Try switching between UDP/TCP/TLS transport. Firewall may be blocking SIP ports (5060/5061).
Audio Problems
No audio? Check Settings > Audio devices and ensure the correct microphone and speaker are selected. Grant Aria microphone permission in your system privacy settings.
Registration Failed
Double-check your username and password. Some servers use a separate "auth username". Try the full SIP URI format (user@domain.com) if just the username doesn't work.
Using Developer Diagnostics
Open Settings > Developer diagnostics to see real-time SIP message tracing. Export logs as text or PCAP (Wireshark) format for detailed analysis or to share with support.
